Project-host: Misyani Small Home Place: City of Tala (Province Machakos)/ 80Km from Nairobi

Description of the local project: Misyani Small home was established in 1988 by the Catholic Diocese of Machakos. It is a home for the physically handicapped children who cannot walk long distances before and after school. Therefore, the children are accommodated next to their school (St. Francis Misyani Primary School). Currently the home is hosting about 25 children but has a capacity of 30.Field of work: Education, environment, youth empowerment, health and sports

 Special qualifications required: Social work skills

Special qualifications recommended: Experience with handicapped children

Description of the tasks of the volunteer: 1. Empowering the minors to be self reliant; 2. Working alongside other social workers in provision of basic needs; 3. Promotion of education and other related affairs; 4. working in the small home garden 5. To train children on creativity. Promotion of a healthy environment will improve the welfare and lives of the members of the home. The actual tasks can vary according to the project’s current needs and depend on the volunteer’s own initiative.
